Meet Your Tour Coordinators

Katie Moore has been a traveler since her beginnings in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  By the time Katie graduated from college she had lived in more than eight states and visited many others.  She studied international relations at the University of Colorado and hit the road upon graduating and didn't stop for over a decade.  Eventually she landed in Los Angeles where she ran an international democracy education program.  The job included international travel, and she was in charge of coordinating tours for teachers in countries such as Azerbaijan, Peru, Lithuania, Russia, and Columbia, just to mention a few.  In early 2013, Katie moved to Asheville, North Carolina to pursue her cheese passion and opened her new business, The Cheese Store of Asheville, which was housed in the Weinhaus until the end of 2014.   Over the next several years Katie ran the WNC Cheese Trail, started the Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest, and learned cheese making at a local creamery.  She now manages Blue Ridge Mountain Creamery, and recently opened Barn Door Ciderworks where she is able to immerse herself in cider making and playing chef in the small restaurant that is part of the cidery.  Katie invited her sister Nancy to join her on the tour as co-coordinator and interpreter for the group.

Nancy Moore has been speaking Spanish since the late 1980s.  A linguistics major in college, she took Spanish classes as part of her course of study.  She perfected the art of speaking over many years and through numerous experiences.  She studied abroad in Spain, worked with a Latinx literacy organization in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago, and was a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras.  After Peace Corps she worked with Latinx artists and communities while at Columbia College Chicago and with the Chicago Park District and continued the practice after moving to the South.  She currently teaches Spanish classes for the A-B Tech Community College Community Enrichment program and is a part of Buncombe County Schools Migrant Education Program in Western North Carolina, where she utilizes Spanish regularly.  She has traveled extensively in Latin America, Spain, Europe, and throughout the United States. She is excited to join Katie in journeying to the north of Spain and sharing her skills with the group.
